Demijohn News - October and November 2010 Our News: We triumphantly scooped the top award for Small Independent Retailers at the Scottish Retail awards last month and have been celebrating ever since! Thankyou for your support in what has been an extraordinary journey over the past 6 years. I was being sincere when I said it was a team effort, as without all our Staff at Demijohn we would not exist and it is their hard work and enthusiasm which keeps us at the top of our game. Our award caused an impressive flurry of media activity too, some of which is worth reading. Take a quick look at What people say about us on our website. However, it was sloe picking this year that was possibly the highlight of our October, and yes we got our sunny day to crack it too! On Sunday 17th we headed back to Galloway, near Dumfries in South West Scotland, to some of the same ground we picked on in 2007 and at the kind invitation of the Crawford family. Our party of 12 was made up of part team Demijohn and four keen Glasgow Young Professionals (GYP). The GYP's are a newly formed group of young enthusiastic foodies, who meet regularly in Glasgow for various fun social gatherings. They have proved to be excellent Demijohn customers, attending some of our tasting evenings. However, this time they volunteered themselves freely after our call for assistance. As you can imagine, to persuade them to come I did not dwell on the less attractive side of picking sloe, the cold wind in the ear, high chance of rain, prickly bushes and let's face damned hard graft! Rather, I span the line of the considerably large lunch with some delicious Demijohn drinks from our new Sporting Box. And so they willingly and thankfully volunteered! Good weather and plenty of sloe led to us picking 50kg of sloe, close to our record set in 2007 57kg. It was a sterling effort and many thanks go to all who made it happen. This will certainly provide a good start for our 2011 vintage of sloe gin.
Dates for your Diary We are currently exhibiting at the Country Living Fair in Glasgow, so we might see you there, after which tere are only 2 events to go before Christmas! While the BBC Good Food Winter Show is undoubtedly the biggest show of our year, our passion and heart would have to be with the Kibble Palace Christmas Fair on 1st and 2nd of Dec in support of Maggies' Cancer Caring Centres. Glasgow's Botanic Gardens are World famous, and the garden's glasshouse, named the Kibble Palace, is its jewel in its crown. The fair is in its second year after a successful launch as a new event in 2009. The fair aims to bring some early Christmas Spirit to the West End of Glasgow and raise some valuable funds for Maggies. The event will be opened officially by Kirsty Wark, the well known TV Presenter and we will be offering a few of our more unusual Demijohn cocktail drinks to get it off to roaring start. With many fantastic new stalls, ranging from amusing toys and Christmas Cakes to linen and designer jewellery, this event is definitely one to put in the diary!

Product News While we are already running low on some lines due to strong demand, we have added 2 delightful new bottles to our range.
