Demijohn News - April 2010
Our News: The daffodils are finally out here and the cold winter has passed, but at least something good thing came out of the prolonged cold spell. One of our inspired customers, Mrs Wilson of Biggar, has found a brilliant end use for the protective red netting we use to send your orders out safely to you, a bird feeder! If anyone else has any other ideas for reusing our products that they would like to share, please email the details to me at info@demijohn.co.uk Our spring events are in full swing also and causing me to do quite a bit of dashing about. Last Friday I was asked to take part in Erskine's Charity fundraising ladies lunch at the up market Marr Hall Hotel in Renfrewshire. 250 delightful West Coast Ladies sat down to play our newly invented game of "Guess the Demijohn Liqueur", with the renowned actress and comedian Elaine C. Smith in charge of proceedings. I chose our Organic Rhubarb Vodka Liqueur 22.9% for the competition. As you can imagine, after a small shot of vodka and helped by Elaine's humour the chat at the lunch spiced up somewhat. 3 hours later I finally escaped, luckily with all my equipment still intact! I head to Yorkshire in May for our next 2 events. We will be exhibiting for the first time at the Dales Food & Drink Festival at Leyburn in North Yorkshire this weekend Sat 1, Sun 2 and Mon 3 May. So if you are in the Dales this weekend, hopefully you can make time to drop in? Then it is back to known ground in Hovingham, North Yorkshire where we will take part again in this years Spring Fair in aid of the ABF The Soldier's Charity. The fair opens on Wed 19th (5 to 9.30pm) and Thurs 20th May (10am to 4pm). It is a tremendously fun event with many stalls of different products and a good chance to see the beautiful Hovingham Hall in all its splendor!
York Tasting Evenings

The normal cost of our standard tasting evenings would be £11.50 per person, however participation will be FREE for invited guests only. If you would like to be invited to attend an evening please email me at info@demijohn.co.uk as soon as possible with your full contact details and choice of dates in priority order. All applications will be responded to, however allocation of limited places will be made on a first to respond basis.
Election Twist Cocktail
The 2010 election fever certainly needs a little ice to cool it off and our Election Twist cocktail might be just the long drink needed to keep us up late and survive a long night of vote counting! Our Election Twist is a Demijohn variation of the seductively sweet classic Long Island Iced Tea cocktail and has been invented by one of our Glasgow team members, Carlos Wheeler. It was first drunk by a group of guests taking part in one of our organised tasting evenings in Glasgow. Their enthusiastic noises of approval have now written it into the official Demijohn Cocktail Book!
Ingredients:
1 measure Seville Orange Gin 26%
1 measure Lemon Vodka Liqueur 22.5% or Grapefruit Vodka Liqueur 20%
1/2 measure Nelson's Spiced Rum Liqueur 20%
1/2 measure lemon juice
Preparation:
Describing the preparation of this drink reads like a manifesto. Making our Election Twist is an undemanding labour of love! Start with equal measures of our marmalady Seville Orange Gin 26% and our Lemon Vodka Liqueur 24%. Add a conservative measure of Nelson's Spiced Rum and a splash of fresh squeezed lemon to give a twist of independence and a subtly green feel. Shake and strain into an ice filled Collins (long) or Rocks (short) glass and top up with a liberal dose of full fat Coca Cola. If you are a monster raving looney and want to make it a classic Long Island Iced Tea, add a half measure of gold Tequila and teaspoon full of egg white. Election night will never be the same again!
