Demijohn News - August 2007
Our News: August has started with a SPLOSH!  We never did manage to experience the comic theatre of trading next to a herd of mozzarella producing Water Buffalo at the CLA Game Fair at the end of July.  The show was sadly cancelled at the last minute due to excessive rain.  I only hope our poor Yorkshire folk manage to dry themselves out soon.  We may have lost some money and still be licking our wounds, but I am not one to dwell on failure for long.  There is too much good news to report!  Our new monthly newsletter format with its reduced file size is a great success, let me know what you think?  If you are reading this but did not recieve our Demijohn July Newsletter simply click the link to view it.  Happy reading!  The Edinburgh Festival has certainly started strongly and threatens to brings us a tremendously busy month.  On Sunday we perfomed again at a very successful Summer Slow Food Fair in North Berwick.  The sun shone and we met many news faces from all over the UK.  To make up for the loss of The Game Fair we have managed to sneak a late place at a new event in Edinburgh called Foodies at the Festival.  We will be performing again in the Roxburghe Hotel, Charlotte Square on Sat 18th and Sun 19th August with an exclusive line up of Scottish culinary stars from 10am to 6pm each day.  So, if you can't get to us in Victoria Street, hopefully I will see you in the New Town.  All details are on their website.   As if this isn't enough, we are also part sponsoring a novel act called Wine School at the Fringe with some of our own very fine Somerset Pomona 20%.  The school runs daily until 27th August on a barge tethered at Edinburgh Quay and I am sure this will be more interesting than my memories of school.  The Case Studies Wine School website has full details.  Finally our new catalogue, celebrating our 3rd birthday this year, should be hitting your doormats as I type.  If in a few weeks you are yet to receive Frances's latest bible to all things Demijohn, then please send your full name and address details to info@demijohn.co.uk and we will happily send a copy to you too.

New Products
Those who saw us in North Berwick last Sunday may have had the chance to try our exciting new Sloe Vodka from Suffolk?  Charlotte Bevan, creater of our extremely popular Lime Vodka, has whisked up a magical trial batch of this clean tasting, bitter sweet liqueur.  Judging its popularity by the ooh and aah factor, its success is without question.  We will be launching it properly at Foodies at the Festival this weekend, so if you want to be one of the first to buy it we look forward to seeing you there! Coming Soon: A new whisky, a new gin liqueur, a new olive oil and even more bottles. More in my next letter.

Forthcoming Demijohn Events
After Foodies at the Festival this coming weekend, the whirlwind of fairs properly starts and I will be on the road every 2 weeks until January, phew!  We will be taking part again this year in the Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival.  It will be held at Loch Lomond Shores, Balloch as last year on Sat 8th and Sun 9th September.  The festival runs between 9am and 6.15pm on both days, and was a tremendous success last year with many small producers exhibiting including Claire Macdonald.  Full details can be found on their website.

Staff News
We employ an artistic and talented bunch at Demijohn.  Most of the team seem to be involved in the Edinburgh Festival in one way or another this year, and not just watching shows or drinking but actually producing and perfoming!  David G. Lees, in between his Demijohn shifts, is producing 'Smile and Say Thanks' for the Student Theatre at Glasgow.  His show takes place at Venue 49 in the Bedlam Theatre and is tipped as one of the Skinny's top five theatre events.  It runs between 13th and 25th August, curtain up at 10am each day.  The edfringe.com booking office has full details.  Given my experience of David's regular performances in Demijohn this should be worth watching!  To contrast, Amy Thomas, who normally appears quietly serving in Demijohn in Edinburgh is making a big noise at the Jazz Festival.  Not only is she a regular performer at Gleneagles Hotel when they can afford her, but she is already set to win an award for her ability to sing in the Silhouette Antoinette presentation 'Let Them Eat Cake.'  Being a fan of Jazz myself and having heard her incredible voice, I am sure her songs at the Jazz Bar in Chamber street between 20th to 24th August will be fully booked.  Once again the edfringe.com website has full booking details.

Have a fun month and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
