Demijohn News - December 2008
Our News:  The end of the Christmas fair season was definitely marked with a big bang rather than a small fizzle! After 6 events in 2 months, we ended with the biggest of the them all, the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham during the last week of November.  Hollie and I trundled South thinking that people would be hard to please, but how wrong we were.  Instead we were happily run off our feet and sold everything but 8 bottles!  We made a wonderful amount of new friends and met many old friends as well, often bringing their bottles back for a refill.  The planning involved in that always impresses me as I would forget my head were it not screwed on, there should be a medal for such things!  The highlight of the Good Food Show must have been a visit to our stand by Mr Oz Clarke, the acclaimed wine critic.  So determined was he to find out what we were up to, he did not just come to find us once, but twice!  The moment was simple.  Hollie and I nervously served him doses of our medicine and listened for the retorts.  "...they are all Brammle is the old Scots for bramble, or blackberry.good," he says with an air of understanding equivalent to that of a nuclear physicist, "...but my favourite would have to be the Brammle Scotch Whisky Liqueur..."  It is good to see that wise men are still real men in England, because I would have been worried had he said the Butterscotch Cream Liqueur!  If we are lucky Mr Clarke may stray off his track while preparing for his new series with James May in Scotland early in 2009 and visit one of the shops.  To make James May pround, my very own MGB GTHe is most welcome, let's hope they remember to leave the May's car behind!  We have achieved much in 2008 from winning retail awards to celebrity visits, but possibly of most note is the small way in which we have been able to help some of the many charitable institutions that approached us for donations.  Our donations have ranged from sales at charitable Christmas fairs, to small donations of stock for raffle prizes and also much larger donations for charitable auction prizes.  Our 9 Demijohn Tasting Evening Gift Vouchers that were donated in 2008 raised a staggering £8000+ at auctions for NSPCC, MS Society Scotland, Maggie's Centres, St George's School for Girls, Erskine Hospital, Marie Curie, Scottish Ballet, White Lily Fund and Spifox.  Combined with our other charitable donations, we have assisted in raising well over £10,000 for good causes.  Sadly we cannot help everyone who requests assistance and I apologise now if you applied but had no response.  There just is not enough time in each day.  We can only donate if we are successful in business and to do that we needed your support.  So thank you for your marvellous custom in 2008; it is much appreciated.  Watch out 2009 here we come!

Late Opening and Online Pre-Ordering
We have tried to make it even easier this year to shop with us, reverting to what can only be described as an old fashioned level of service with a modern twist!  Both our shops are now running an extended opening hours programme to allow for you to shop later in the day if you wish.  See the Our Shops page on our website for full details.  In addition, you are now able to place an order online for collection in a particular shop.  Other than paying for your goods, there is no additional charge for this service.  The benefit is that all your items will be gift wrapped for FREE, saving you not only waiting time but up to £1.50 on your wrapping bill for each item.  Please allow 48 hours prior to collecting and if possible call the relevant shop in advance to ensure that your order is fully prepared.  If you are unable to use our online shop, you can always call us on 0141 3373600 and place your pre-order that way.
