Demijohn News - June 2008
Our News: The combination of Summer arriving at last, as well as our recent successful series of product launches for our Organic Rhubarb and Organic Zofia working hard at Glasgow's infamous West End FestivalCucumber Vodkas has made for a very busy month.  One week in particular took the biscuit!  Carrie and her Glasgow Team engaged merrily with West End Festival goers, Alastair and his Edinburgh Team organised polite drinks for 75 Ladies who do Lunch at Roti on behalf of Scottish Woman Magazine, while Amelia and I were engaged in selling to many brilliantly enthusiastic foodies at the BBC Good Food Summer Festival in Birmingham.  Amazingly we are still here to tell the tale.  It was our first try at the BBC Summer Festival at the NEC, which successfully combines gardens, lifestyle and of course good food under the same enourmous roof.  In fact, we distracted so many of the green fingered brigade from their gardening research that we sold almost all our stock.  But selling was the least of our challenges.  In the thick of it all I was made to perform live interviews for both Welsh Television Channel S4C and also local radio station BBC Coventry and Warwickshire.  Not ever being particularly adept at understanding a beautiful, if strong, Welsh accent, I nearly embarrassed myself terribly prior to my S4C interview:  The attractive Welsh TV Presenter politely introduces herself to me, at which point I freeze in a fit of misunderstanding.  Some of the Team working less hard at Glasgow's infamous West End Festival!Desperately trying to work out what she has just said, I am left gasping for oxygen like a goldfish that has left its comfortable bowl of water.  Brain now in a dizzy spin, I stand motionless, thinking why on earth is a Welsh presenter based in Tenbury Wells?*!  Luckily for me, Amelia Pace, who came down from Edinburgh to help me out, and who has some tenuous Welsh family connections, immediately steps in to the rescue.  Sharp as an arrow she translates the offending "Wells" for Wales.  This prevents me from the complete embarrassment of digging myself an escape hole of similar depth to an Australian asking directions to a public loo in Glasgow!  Roll on July, it is bound to get easier from here ....

Forthcoming Events
The calendar of events is moving along quickly now with our next outing to the Scottish Game Conservancy Fair at Scone Palace, near Perth.  This fantastic event runs between 4 to 6 July and we will be performing on Stag Row as last year, just opposite the exit to the Food Hall.  If you haven't been before bring welly boots and your brolly, and the sun will shine!  We are finally to have a crack at the Mother of all game fairs, the CLA Game Fair  This year it will be held at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire between 25 to 27 July and we will be exhibiting in the British food area on Stand E958.  The Edinburgh Festival will end this year with us exhibiting at Foodies at the Festival again on Stand 14.  The event will run on both Sat 23 and Sun 24 August in the Edinburgh Sheraton Hilton Hotel in Festival Square.  I will be on stage once more during the event running an Olive Oil Tasting Theatre.  Events for September and beyond will appear in future newsletters.

Supporting a Friend
Our web designer and friend has finally lost the plot and jumped on his bicycle to ride from John o' Groats to Lands End in aid of Diabetes UK.  It gets a lot more personal than this when you consider that he is supporting the charity that is helping my Father as a diabetic and he is stepping out with my younger Sister!  Not only is he much braver than I in doing the ride, but he is supporting a very worthwhile cause and his blog is very funny!  If you feel moved as I did to support his efforts, please take a look at the blog and feel free to support his tremendously painful effort.  As I type sitting in a nice warm office, he is battling against some wonderful cold and wet British weather, with blisters in all the wrong places and still has a long way to go to the end.....good luck Stuart, we are right with you!
