Demijohn News - March 2009
Our News: The year is moving swiftly now, after a really strong start for us at Demijohn. But isn't it strange how the weather has a way of catching you out even if the economy does not? Big snow followed by sunny thaw. It Brightens up enough to lull animals and plants into a false sense of security and then blow me, an arctic storm descends again with enough chill to freeze even toughest of polar bears! And guess what, today balmy sunshine...Britain at its best! It is no wonder that only the British can stick this tiny island for any length of time! There is some relevance to all this weather chat, because we are just about to dust off the Demijohn travelling road show once more and get selling at foodie events the length and breadth of Britain, first stop the Chester Food & Drink Festival on stand 51. Last year I left sunny Scotland to be confronted by Easter blizzards in Cheshire, supposedly a land of warmth and wheat. I have learnt my lesson, so when we appear at the charming Chester Race Course for the second time between Sat 11 and Mon 13 April 2009, I will be bringing my full supply of Damart underwear just in case of another arctic shock! To make the event more fun I am once again staying with one of our talented gin liqueur producers, Rosie Sedgwick, who lives close to the Race Course. Along with other products from our range I will be selling Rosie's unique Cranberry Gin and Gooseberry Gin liqueurs at the food festival. We will also be launching our alternative Easter Egg, the Liquid Bomb! A round 500ml Strauss bottle of our delicious Chocolate Orange Cream Liqueur 17%. So if you are nearby and have yet to try Rosie's gins or are needing something special for Easter, then I recommend you mark us in your diary now and make it a date!
Product News
Although I am not sure that Scotland is yet showing any signs of spring, we are preparing optimistically by giving a fresh burst of life to our extensive range of fruit vinegars. Not only have we managed to bring back a limited supply of our ever popular Elderflower Vinegar, but also our delicious Strawberry Vinegar and rich Blackcurrant Vinegar are now back on tap. For those of you who are lovers of our Sloe, Damson and Wild Bullace Gin Liqueurs a crisis is brewing. All 3 demijohns are now at dangerously low levels with no chance of replenishment until Oct 2009 at the earliest, help! The shortage has been caused by a serious lack of fruit in the 2008 growing season. So if you're needing to refill with these products, now would the moment to do it to prevent disappointment.
Coming soon: A new Whisky or two, a new vodka, fresh Corfu olive oil and some new and fruity liqueurs for 2009. More in the next newsletter.
Staff News
Come Dancing! That would be one way of describing the Demijohn 2008 Staff Christmas night out which finally took place at the begining of February in Glasgow. Our evenings do take a little bit of planning, but the result makes for an interesting and memorable party. We started in our Glasgow shop with a high pressure cocktail competition, Glasgow Vs Edinburgh led by the illustrious Shop Managers, Carrie and Alastair. Competition was fierce between Glasgow's Strawberry Moscow Mule and Edinburgh's Scottish Rose and a draw was declared as being safest! If you make their cocktails, please let me know what you think of them and we will post your comments up on our website. The evening then took on a very Latin theme, with an hour's instruction of Salsa Dancing followed by delicious Tapas in the local Cafe Andaluz Restaurant. A final drink in Booly Mardis brought a most enjoyable night to a close. Fortunately for most of us some embarrassing footage of Team Demijohn Salsa dancing will never make a public appearance on U Tube as a result of my accidental deletion of the file, sorry. However, memories are still fresh of the evening and I have heard that some of the team rather fancy their chances on the dance floor once more!
And finally..... a Mother's Day top tip for men with Mothers who are already Demijohn customers - Start early, borrow her bottle and refill it with her favourite product. She will be impressed and you will have saved money!
Pease keep the comments coming on how we are doing by emailing me at info@demijohn.co.uk They are most appreciated!
