Introducing the Food Lovers' Easter Egg!
Spring is in the air and Easter just around the corner. So if you are like me and just bored stiff with too much chocolate at Easter, but rather like the symbolism of an egg and the thought of a green leaf salad to bring in the Spring, then Food Lovers look no further! The Oil & Vinegar Easter Egg for a true foodie has been born, the Food Lovers' Easter Egg. This set combines our beautiful 200ml Ying & Yang bottles with two sensational food products, our strong fresh Villa Montalbano Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Tuscany and our rich, smooth Blackcurrant Vinegar from the Dalmeny Estate just North of Edinburgh. They can be used together to dress a strongly flavoured salad or separately to create some wonderful alternative dishes. Try this fresh oil with mint and a little salt on boiled new potatoes instead of butter and try our Blackcurrant Vinegar on ice cream, amazing! Our Food Lovers' Easter Egg is priced at £15.20 and available to purchase online or in our shops in Edinburgh, Glasgow and York.

Demijohn News - March 2010
Our News: We have done it, broken free of our chains and hit that road again to take Demijohn to a place near you. Shaking the dust off our mobile shop for the first event of the year is always a challenge, and I invariably forget something. This year it was shopping bags! Luckily the good Ladies of the Harrogate Parkinson's Society Ladies Lunch were persuaded to be environmentally conscious and make good use of their handbags. Very lucky for me therefore that is was not a Working Men's Club lunch, where handbags would be more rare than a profligate Scotsman! Sometimes at events such as this, an auction takes place of donated items to raise more money for the charity. Normally I would stand back and let it all happen around me. On this occasion, however, my boyish attention was caught by one particular auction lot. With my aim primarily to help the Parkinson's Society raise lots of money by starting a bidding war with another determined Lady bidder who seemed intent on purchasing the item, I confidently bid increasingly on the lot. Imagine my surprise therefore, when she suddenly ceased and I was left the proud owner of one UNICYLE! Needless to say I have been in agony ever since and I would strongly advise anyone who is less foolhardy than me to simply bid for the meal for two at the local pub! We will be exhibiting at the Chester Food & Drink Festival again this year at the Chester Racecourse over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend on 3, 4 and 5 April. Our stand will be in the Roodee tent as last year and I will have my Unicycle to hand, so if you would like a go after tasting some nice Demijohn products I am sure that can be arranged!
Product News
Extraordinary times for gin lovers. Not only has our delicious Damson Gin been returned in plentiful supply to our shelves, but the 2009 vintage of our Traditional British Sloe Gin has made it back into its Demijohn as well. I am not advocating these are necessarily spring drinks, just merely that they would make a wintery Easter weekend, (if that is what it is to be), a lot more bearable! If you are going to be cooking a lot, however, and need a few handy tips for recipes, well why not try this special little dish I make regularly with our new infused Yorkshire Red Chilli Rapeseed Oil. Heat a frying pan until it just starts to smoke, then add a generous splash of our Chilli Rape Seed Oil. Add a finely chopped clove of garlic and some fresh king prawns with their shells on (I allow around 10 prawns per person). Fry quickly, turning until they have turned pink. Crack a little salt over the prawns before removing them from the pan and decant into a bowl. Serve immediately with a chilled shot of our Lime Vodka, real mayonnaise and good warm bread. Fantastic!
Coming soon: Another new cask of whisky, a new fruity vinegar to bring in the Spring.
If I don't see you in Chester on my Unicycle over the Easter weekend, have a wonderful Easter where ever you are!
