Spring into Summer with our new Elderflower Vodka!
Something new has landed on the shelves at Demijohn which will hopefully tickle you pink. It will certainly get you in the mood for a long hot Summer as well as possibly sorting out a Father's Day present dilemma, Elderflower Vodka The flower of the Elder is one of my favourite hedgerow steals. Great as a herb for cooking with, but excellent too when infused in organic vodka. The result is a seriously exciting drink with a distinctive taste of Summer. Its clever balance of sweetness makes it good for cocktails too! Why not try out our new Elderflower Vodka Cooler cocktail at your next party? But, if you like the taste of elderflower and can do without the vodka, well there is always our delightful Elderflower Vinegar to try. Fabulous for long refreshing drinks with soda and of course for dressing salads too. With Father's Day just around the corner and the thermometer rising, stock up now so you can get into the garden and let the elderflower party begin!

Demijohn News - May 2009
Our News: It has been a while since I put finger to keyboard, but in my defense it has been thankfully due to our continuing success which is keeping us more busy than normal at this time of year. I cannot thankyou enough for all your support. Weddings season has most definitely started with a rush this year. We are already well known for being a good source of some unique wedding presents, but our new range of miniatures are less well known and can work brilliantly as either wedding favors or even corporate gifts. Our free message service might just be the personal touch you are looking for? Please view either our Wedding Gifts or Corporate Gift pages for more details. Weddings are not the only thing keeping us busy, we have also had a flurry of fun tasting evenings, held both within and without the Demijohn shops. Wonderful groups ranging from Greggs the Bakers, to members of Tangerine social networking club. Just last Thursday we had a whopper of an evening entertaining 65 Actuaries from Standard Life in their big hoose in Edinburgh! A daunting task faced Alastair and I at the start of the evening, but by 10pm we reckon we had the better of them......or so we thought as my bones were still aching the next morning! If you would like to find out more about the events we can host, take a quick look at our Tasting Evenings webpage for further details. We have generated a lot of wonderful feed back from our loyal Customers over the years, but this one truly is the cats whiskers! Theo the Cat, who's owner Antonella, has been for some time now one of our loyal supporters, has developed a taste for our products too. Exactly what this will cost his owner in the years to come it is difficult to say, although we are pretty good on our gins and it is indeed gin that Theo has taken a shine to!
Product News
It's all good news! The British hedgerow fruit crisis for damson and sloe berries in 2008 looks set to be resolved in 2009 as there is already a tremendous blossom on the trees up and down the Country. It certainly looks as if despite the economy struggling to recover from a poor 2008, we will be able to get out picking sloe again this year until the cows come home! Anyone feeling as though they too would like to take part in our sloe picking from their end of the Country and earn some pocket money while they are out in the fresh air, then please contact us for details. There is heart warming news on the olive oil front also. The January 2009 harvest of Kabbadates Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil has shown itself to be particularly delightful this year and we are making plans as I type to get it across from Corfu and onto our shelves as soon as possible.
Coming soon: A new Whisky or two, fresh Corfu olive oil and some new and fruity liqueurs for 2009. More in the next newsletter.
Event News
We are about to start the Summer marathon of food shows and events that will leave me out of breath by August! Please click on the relevant links to view more details about individual events. We kick off with a trip to North Yorkshire for 2 events back to back. These are made much more civilised by the fact that I stay with a lovely family who sell the most fantastic games and puzzles imaginable, so the evenings are never dull! We exhibit first at the now annual Army Benevolent Fund Charity Spring Fair at Hovingham Hall, Hovingham on 21st (4.30- 9.15pm) and 22nd (10am - 4pm) May. This is followed swiftly by the Yorkshire Game Fair at Harewood House, near Leeds on 24th and 25 May. Then it is back up to Scotland for Taste of Edinburgh on Stand H1 in Inverleith Park between 29th and 31st May. After a mere week off, it is back down to Birmingham for the BBC Good Food Summer Show on Stand F157 between 10th and 14th June. Time for a little wash and a dust off before my favourite event of the year, the glorious Scone Game Fair held at Scone Palace, Perth between 3rd to 5th July. We will be on Osprey Row again opposite the Food Hall. The Summer season finishes with the biggest field event of the year, the CLA Game Fair. This year it is held at Belvoir Castle, Grantham between 24th and 26th July. Phew, I am feeling exhausted just writing it all! Hopefully we will see you at one or possibly all of the events, maybe to even refill your bottle......
Staff News
Sadly April saw the departure of a good friend and excellent member of the team, David Lees. Having worked with us for nearly 3 years, David follows his ambition to pursue a career in Theatre. We remember him best for creating snow angels on the Demijohn sledging trip in 2006 and wish him all the best of luck for the future! On a happier note, we are proud to announce a new member to our team in Glasgow. Grace Kirkwood, who is currently studying for a History & Politics Degree at Linlithgow Academy. After joining us a couple of weeks ago, she is already confidently dancing around the floor as though she had always been there. Well done Grace!
And finally, don't forget to order your presents in good time for Father's Day on 21st June......
