Demijohn News - November 2007
Our News: I feel a few fairs older since I last wrote, but all have been wonderfully successful to date and a great opportunity to meet many fantastic people. Fairs, however, have only been half the story. We were once again thrust into the lime light on 31st Oct after being nominated as a finalist for Responsible Retailer of the Year in this year's prestigious Scottish Retail Awards. 3 of us from the Demijohn Team rubbed shoulders for the second year running with the glitterati of retail, to attend the award ceremony. Carrie was looking her best, but Alastair and I could have done with a little more grooming I think! Next year we will be in the running for Best Independant Retailer of the Year, and Alastair promises me he will have learnt to tie his own bow tie by that date when we hopefully scoop first prize! If you think either we or Alastair have a chance at achieving our goals, I will be reminding you all to express your opinions and vote for us in about September next year. Finally, we took part in a small but perfectly formed fund raising event for The Erskine Hospital on Friday 9th November. A little Christmas shopping in Byres Road Hilton Hotel was given a helpful nudge by a few of our own favourite Demijohn cocktails. Of particular note was the newly named Erskine Cocktail. Our Tipsage Seville Orange Gin 26% mixed with a good tonic, crushed ice and a sprig of mint. Simple it may be, but it is amazing how well that went down! Warning, if you are yet to try our Seville Orange Gin, or even or Sloe Gin for that matter, you had better be quick. Stocks of both gins are extremly low due to their overwhelming popularity and their demijohns are predicted to be dry by the end of this month!
New Products
Frances has been busy re-arranging our hampers once again. Starting at only £50 for our small hamper and rising to the huge hamper at £500, the set range is designed to meet everyones needs quickly. However, if you have the time, building hampers can be alot of fun. So why not drop in and build one for yourself in the shop or call us on 0141 3373600 to discuss options? Cold evenings with a chance of snow always make me start to dream of skiing. If like me, family and business conspire to make a little trip to the Alps just that bit too far, then the next best thing is a touch of mulled wine to sooth the wounds! Well, good news is at hand, our delicious Mulled Wine from Devon is back in stock, more details are available in the wine section of our online shop Coming Soon: A new single malt whisky for Christmas is coming, and so is a beautiful hand made cherry wood box for our Mystic 500ml bottle. Wait till you see this! More in my next letter.
Forthcoming Demijohn Events
Tomorrow we will be exhibiting again at the Malcolm Sargent Christmas Fair at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries on 20 (4.30-730pm) and 21 Nov (10am - 3.30pm). Later this week we take part in the Erkine Hospital Christmas Fair, Christmas Cracker at the Erskine Bridge Hotel in Glasgow on 22 (2-7pm) and 23 Nov (10am - 3pm). We then move to the biggest of all food fairs in the year, the BBC Good Food Show in Birmigham's NEC from Wed 28 Nov to Sun 2 Dec. We will be on stand H23 and like last year Jamie Oliver has put himself next to us to try and attract a few extra customers. If he nice to us we might even let him try our Sloe Gin! Our final charitable Christmas fair of the year is Trefoil House Christmas Bonanza. It will be held, as last year, in The Edinburgh Corn Exchange at 11 New Market Road, EH14 1RJ on Tue 4 Dec (2.30 to 7.30pm) and Wed 5 Dec (10am to 3pm). A good fair last year which will no doubt have grown in size this year for some last minute present solutions!
Staff News
We have nearly all the team together now to make it through a frantic few weeks of work before Christmas. Today we were over the moon to be rejoined by Ceara East in Glasgow. Ceara worked for us during much of last year in Edinburgh and left in May to travel Europe prior to taking up her place at Glasgow University. Luckily for us she needed some pocket money, just in the nick of time!
