DEMIJOHN GET SPECIAL COMMENDATION AT SCOTTISH RETAIL EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Angus Ferguson collecting the Demijohn retail awardScotland’s first liquid deli Demijohn, was given a unique Special Commendation Award recognising their “outstanding passion for excellence” in independent retailing at last week’s prestigious 2008 Scottish Retail Excellence Awards at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.  

This one-off special commendation was only awarded to Demijohn amongst all the finalists because the judges were so moved by Demijohn’s enthusiasm for retail. Demijohn has two shops – in Edinburgh and Glasgow – and sells an innovative array of liqueurs, spirits, oils and vinegars.

Since they started up just three years ago sales have rocketed as customers love their products and their unique way of selling. All the products are stored in huge glass demijohns and then customers choose the size and shape of the reusable bottle and get it filled.

Despite the economy downturn Demijohn are expanding with a growth rate of some 20% and are looking to open more shops, as well as having revamped their website to handle mail order orders more easily and efficiently.

The Scottish Retail Excellence Awards were created by the Scottish Daily Record and Scottish Business Insider, with support from the Scottish Retail Consortium, to honour the retail sector’s top achievers and to recognise excellence in all areas of retail throughout Scotland.

Demijohn Owner Angus Ferguson said: “We are overwhelmed to be given such an accolade and it reflects the genuine passion the team at Demijohn have for the products and our unique way of selling. The judges seemed literally bowled over by our enthusiasm so felt they must create this special award.”

Each Demijohn product is lovingly sourced from small producers across the UK and Europe who, like Demijohn have a passion for good food and drink produced in an eco-friendly way. Wherever possible Scottish producers are sought, for example, Raspberry Vinegar from Perthshire, Organic Rhubarb Vodka Liqueur from Invernesshire and cask strength single malt whisky from the Linkwood Distillery at Elgin.
