DEMIJOHN LAUNCH PERTHSHIRE RAPE SEED OIL
21st October 2008
Demijohn’s family of oils has just grown with the launch of its first ever Extra Virgin Rape Seed Oil from Perthshire. It has been sourced particularly for its exceptional taste, unlike many other British rape seed oils. It is being launched at the BBC Good Food Show from 31 Oct – 2 Nov at the SECC in Glasgow on Stand D100, as part of the Great British Food Festival. Rape Seed Oil is already well known for its exceptional qualities, especially when frying, roasting or baking as it has a much higher burn point than olive oil. It is also deemed to be a ‘healthy’ oil in comparison to other vegetable oils.
Produced by Mark Bush and his family at their farm at Madderty in Perthshire, Demijohn’s Extra Virgin Rape Seed Oil was harvested in late August 2008.
Demijohn’s Owner Angus Ferguson says: “For many years we have been trying to find a pleasant tasting British rape seed oil and finally we struck gold with this local example from Perthshire, which has hit the spot. It makes an excellent oil to roast vegetables at a high temperature without burning, especially when combined with a little of our olive oil to further enhance its flavour. It can even be used in place of butter to make one of life’s luxuries, garlic bread, wonderful.”
The Rape Seed Oil complements the existing family of delicious first class olive oils from around the Mediterranean. It is also an excellent oil for dressings and marinades when combined with one of Demijohn’s locally sourced fruit vinegars, such as Raspberry or Bramble.
Demijohn, Scotland’s only liquid deli, sources and sells a huge array of innovative vinegars, oils, spirits and liqueurs from its two shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow and its online mail order business – www.demijohn.co.uk
The essence of the Demijohn shops is for customers to taste each product before purchasing. The shops are simple and eco-friendly with wooden shelves of large glass Demijohns (large glass bottles traditionally used for storing wines and spirits from which the deli takes its name.) Customers choose their product and the size and shape of glass bottle, which can then be re-filled when empty.
Visit Demijohn’s Stand D100 at the BBC Good Food Show in Glasgow or the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham on Stand H26 to taste for yourself this delicious new oil.
