Spring into summer with two stunning new organic liqueurs launched this week by Scotland’s first liquid deli, Demijohn. Organic Rhubarb Vodka Liqueur and Organic Cucumber Vodka embody the taste of summer in an alcoholic liquid form and are the ‘must haves’ for kicking off any successful summer party.

Organic Rhubarb Vodka Liqueur was created in Inverness by Andrew Lyle who wanted an extra outlet for his fields of organic rhubarb. The wonderful rich, pink colour and fresh rhubarb taste make it the perfect unique drink for mixing with champagne or sparkling wine to make a Spring Kir, or indulge yourself by pouring it over ice cream.

Using Andrew’s fresh organic rhubarb, which for years has been sold at the Covent Garden Market in London and English distilled Organic Vodka and Organic Cane Sugar this liqueur is something magical and special. Having made the liqueur as a present for his wife, Andrew then spoke to Demijohn about selling it commercially. And so Organic Rhubarb Vodka Liqueur was born!

The taste of a British summer cannot be evoked stronger than cucumber sandwiches on a hot day. The liquid, indulgent form of this is Demijohn’s new Organic Cucumber Vodka. Made in Somerset by a farming family well known for their Godminster cheese, they applied their success to this vodka and produced a genuinely sophisticated vegetable spirit infusion.

The cucumber taste is distinctive and provides a deliciously serious spirit to be drunk as a chilled shot or to add fire to a cocktail.

Demijohn creator and owner Angus Ferguson says: “These two new organic vodka liqueurs are our first organic liqueurs and as well as being the ideal starters to summer, they also reinforce our eco-credentials by offering something organic. As with all our products they are available in a wide range of re-usable glass bottles.”

These two new arrivals complement the huge range of liqueurs, oils, vinegars, spirits, wines and whisky available at Demijohn. Inspired by the Italian cantinas and European-style markets Demijohn first opened its doors in 2004 with a shop in Edinburgh and subsequently one in Glasgow. It now has a thriving online and mail order business and has expanded to offering over 40 different exciting products.

Angus Ferguson says: “All our products are sourced from small producers around the UK - and Europe in the case of the oils. Most started as hobby producers and through our business their products have grown into highly popular drinks and food.”

The essence of the Demijohn shops is for customers to taste each product before purchasing. The shops are simple and eco-friendly with wooden shelves of large glass Demijohns (large glass bottles traditionally used for storing wines and spirits from which the deli takes its name.)
