DEMIJOHN LAUNCH THIS SEASONS ELDERFLOWER VINEGAR

Demijohn’s passion for one of its bestselling vinegars – Elderflower Vinegar - has brought the whole team to the hedgerows this summer to ensure they will have a plentiful supply throughout the year.

Mrs Sinclair, the creator of this fabulous vinegar struggles to keep up with demand created by Demijohn customers and given the short season of the elderflower and the fact that they are all picked by hand put out a plea for help. So Demijohn closed its shops for the day and headed to West Craigie Farm on the Dalmeny Estate just outside Edinburgh and spent a glorious afternoon picking the pretty white flowers for Mrs Sinclair.
 
Elderflower Vinegar is a rare creation and epitomises the fresh, sweet smell of summer. Its delicate flavour is similar to the traditional elderflower cordial but is sharper and more exciting to taste. It can either be used as a stunning dressing for salads – good enough on its own or mixed with extra virgin olive oil – or it can be used as a cordial – mix one third vinegar with two thirds sparkling mineral water for a dramatic de-stress drink after a hard day. Priced at £1.40/100ml it is a must.

Demijohn creator and owner Angus Ferguson says: “We have always been extremely passionate about the provenance of all our products since we started 5 years ago, where they come from, who makes them and what with.  So it seems only right that on the day that marks our 5th successful year in business the whole of our team get involved in the production side of our products more.  Gathering elderflowers from the borders and hedgerows outside Edinburgh makes great sense, as does picking sloes berries in October for our Sloe Gin.  Not only is this a great Summer activity, but this is our way of ensuring a healthy supply and something that we can easily help with.  Our Elderflower Vinegar is a really special and unique product.  Scottish elderflowers are not plentiful, and there are few if any people in Britain producing an elderflower vinegar to be sold.  We are lucky to have Mrs Sinclair and her recipe!”
