Last night liquid deli Demijohn scooped the Best Small Independent Multiple Retailer of the Year award at the Scottish Retail Excellence Awards in Glasgow.

With shops in Glasgow, Edinburgh and York and an online business this is a major accolade for the company which has grown by about 30% year on year since it began six years ago. 

Credited by the judges for introducing a whole new way of marketing and retailing artisan drinks, oils and vinegars this award recognises the passion that Demijohn has shown in drink retailing.

Focusing on quality, taste and provenance, together with high eco-credentials and a desire to support small predominantly UK producers, Demijohn has grown into a highly successful specialist retailer. Its products such as Gooseberry Gin, Grapefruit Vodka and Damson Vinegar are tasty, versatile and can be bought in an eco-friendly way.

On receiving this award Angus Ferguson, owner of Demijohn  said: “This is a wonderful surprise and means a huge amount for all of us in the Demijohn team.  Each one our 20 Staff work can share in this recognition of their hard work and effort over the last 6 years.”

Judges said: “We received a record number of entries this year for the awards and this was one of the most fiercely contested categories. Demijohn was a clear winner. It is a great concept and very cleverly executed”
