SALES AT DEMIJOHN GROW BY 30% IN NOVEMBER

Boxing Clever - Demijohn's unique product selection is helping to grow salesScotland’s liquid deli Demijohn is flying in the face of the credit crunch with a massive 30% increase in sales in November on last year’s sales figures. Mail order sales have grown by 40% for the same period last year and there has also been a huge growth in the shop sales.

Despite the economic downturn it seems that the quality of the products Demijohn is offering and its new website are increasing both the number of customers and the amount spent. Because of its solid customer base Demijohn  rarely discounts and this past month has been no exception.

Demijohn is a rarity in the quality food market offering customers delicious spirits and liqueurs – Organic Rhubarb Vodka, Seville Orange Gin etc – unusual oils and vinegars – such as Bramble Vinegar or Rapeseed Oil – and unique whiskies. Its speciality is its eco-credentials as customers choose the size and shape of re-useable bottle, which can then be re-filled.

Demijohn owner Angus Ferguson says: “Everyday there is doom and gloom about Scottish business. We are fortunately bucking the trend completely and have had our best year yet in almost 5 years of trading. Our research has shown that in hard times people like to treat themselves or their friends with high quality, good food and drink. We are offering the kind of luxury comfort drinks and food that pep you up at the end of a tough day.

“We unveiled our new website in September and this has made it easier and far more attractive for customers to shop online. The secret of our success is low overheads, a small marketing budget, exceptional products in terms of quality and taste and an innovative, ‘green’ method of selling.

“The biggest area for growth has been among our new gift boxed sets, which organisations and individuals find as perfect presents. The elegant wooden boxes or the apotheker racks are an unusual and stylish way of thanking or rewarding people and make great Christmas presents.”

Demijohn’s growth in 2008 has meant it is looking to expand in 2009 and plans to open shops in England and possibly Ireland to complement its shop in Victoria St, Edinburgh and Byres Rd, Glasgow.
