SLOE DOWN, SLOE SHERRY HAS ARRIVED!

Slow food has just got slower with the launch of a delicious new autumnal drink – Sloe Sherry. The kings of quirky, artisan drinks – Demijohn - have added this new product to their shelves to offer an alternative to bestselling Sloe Gin.

Made exclusively for Demijohn in Malton, North Yorkshire, Sloe Sherry is for the serious sloe berry addict who simply can’t get enough of those delicious hedgerow berries. Less rich and lighter than the traditional Sloe Gin, Sloe Sherry is perfect for a pre-dinner aperitif or to fill that hip flask on a cold winter’s day. It can even be mixed with Champagne to make a Kir Royale or added to gravies and sauces for red meats for a richer flavour.

Demijohn is so passionate about its sloe liqueurs that last Sunday it shut its shops and took the whole team to Galloway on a sloe pickathon. The team picked 110lbs (50kg) of sloes in four hours which will be used both for their Yorkshire Sloe Sherry and their Worcestershire Sloe Gin. Such is the popularity of these drinks that Demijohn need to boost the raw ingredients to ensure they have a plentiful supply throughout the year.

True to its name Sloe Sherry cannot be made in a hurry. After years of experimentation and months of steeping the Sloe Sherry is finally ready. This year’s berries will not appear as Sloe Gin or Sloe Sherry until mid next year.

Demijohn Owner Angus Ferguson said: “Sloe berries are elusive, yet the perfect fruit to make rich winter drinks. This new Sloe Sherry is a clever new twist on our old British favourite Sloe Gin, but it will appeal to Sloe Gin lovers or who are ready to enjoy a new taste. Picking our own sloe demonstrates how passionate we all are at Demijohn in ensuring the ingredients and provenance of our products is credible. It also makes us appreciate how special our Sloe Gin and Sloe Sherry actually is, and that it is always worth the wait.”

Sloe Sherry Liqueur 18% is priced at £3.80/100ml and is available from the Demijohn shops in York, Edinburgh and Glasgow as well as at www.demijohn.co.uk
