SUNSHINE BRINGS OUT THE ELDERFLOWER VINEGAR AT DEMIJOHN
Woods and paths are now a mass of creamy white as the elderflower springs into blossom and Demijohn introduces the unique elderflower vinegar into its spectacular range of summer 2008 vinegars.
Elderflower Vinegar is a rare creation and epitomises the fresh, sweet smell of early summer. Its delicate flavour is similar to the traditional elderflower cordial but is sharper and more exciting to taste.
It can either be used as a stunning dressing for salads – good enough on its own or mixed with extra virgin olive oil – or it can be used as a cordial – mix one third vinegar with two thirds sparkling mineral water for a dramatic de-stress drink after a hard day.
Given the short season of the elderflower and the fact that they are all picked by hand from wild elderflowers in Scotland there is only a limited supply at Demijohn so customers must buy quickly. Priced at £1.40/100ml it is a must.
Demijohn, Scotland’s only liquid deli, sources and sells a huge array of innovative vinegars, oils, spirits and liqueurs from its two shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow and its online mail order business – www.demijohn.co.uk. Summer would not be complete without the range of delicious innovative vinegars on offer by Demijohn.
For those with a sweeter tooth Strawberry Vinegar is ideal for dressing salads or being very indulgent and pouring over strawberries or ice cream. Barbara Burberry’s Raspberry Vinegar from the heart of Scotland was Demijohn’s first fruit vinegar and remains a bestseller. Its uses are varied from pouring over pavlova, using as an alternative to soya sauce or as a simple salad dressing. For a richer taste the Blackcurrant Vinegar can enhance sauces and gravies or is perfect as a summer cordial.
Demijohn creator and owner Angus Ferguson says: “I feel summer has arrived now we have Elderflower Vinegar. This is a unique product, mainly because Scottish elderflowers are not plentiful and are time consuming to pick and turn into vinegar. All our summer vinegars have such a variety of uses from traditional salad dressings to drinks and unusual additions to sauces. Coupled with their reasonable price they make the perfect summer gift and are a must for the larder.”
The essence of the Demijohn shops is for customers to taste each product before purchasing. The shops are simple and eco-friendly with wooden shelves of large glass Demijohns (large glass bottles traditionally used for storing wines and spirits from which the deli takes its name.) Customers choose their product and the size and shape of glass bottle, which can then be re-filled when empty.
Don’t let summer slip away without purchasing one of Demijohn’s vinegars.
