Superfood Aronia Berry Balsamic Vinegar is the newest arrival at Demijohn

Aronia Berry Balsamic Vinegar

Aronia or Black Chokeberry is a plant native to North America and the berries were used as a traditional Native American cold remedy. Widely recognised for its anti-oxidant properties which help protect your cells from potentially harmful molecules called free radicals, the fruit are used to create our delicious new Aronia Berry Balsamic Vinegar.

Aronia berries are nutrient dense with minimal calories being high in fibre, vitamin C, and manganese as well as containing vitamin K, folate, iron, and vitamins A and E.

Studies have found that the polyphenols in aronia berries can stimulate the growth of intestinal microbiota, promoting healthy digestion and intestinal health. They also have anti-inflammatory properties and as such may help improve heart health.

This amazing fruit can also benefit the young! One study giving aronia berry supplement to young football players found that its addition to their diet produced significant improvements in iron metabolism, blood antioxidation, and athletic performance.

Like a sloe the berries have a strong mouth-drying effect, so they’re best used in such recipes as our delicious Aronia Berry Balsamic Vinegar in which this superfruit can be rendered not only palatable but delicious!

We think this amazing fruit and Balsamic Vinegar makes a wonderful flavour combination. The slight astringency of the flavour gives it a little pepperiness or heat similar to a mild chilli flavour. It packs enough punch to make it hugely versatile.

Whether as salad dressing when combined with our freshly harvested Villa Montalbano Extra Virgin Olive oil or drizzled over some steamed vegetables to give a speedy alternative to the umami flavours of a tray of roasted veg.

It also adds a delicious tang to a beef, venison or lamb steak when used to deglaze the frying pan of all the delicious juices then poured over the still hot meat.

Created for us by the talented Susie Hamilton Stubber in County Armagh, Northern Ireland this delightful new creation comes from the same stable as our hugely popular Black Garlic Balsamic Vinegar and is a worthy stable mate to such a favourite concoction.

Aronia Berry Balsamic Vinegar is bottled in a range of distinctive refillable Demijohn bottles and available to purchase by mail order via the Demijohn’s website.
